FM Qureshi to brief on interaction with Swaraj soon: FO

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office said on Thursday it has offered its services on many occasions to help reduce recent tensions between the US and Iran.

Speaking at a weekly briefing, Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal said the international agreement on Iran must be upheld and misgivings should be removed through negotiations.

He confirmed Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif is arriving in Islamabad this afternoon for talks with Pakistani leadership, adding the visiting dignitary will meet his counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi tomorrow.

Dr Faisal said Pakistan is concerned over the prevailing situation in the Persian Gulf, adding that Zarif and Qureshi will have a detailed discussion on the issue during their meeting in Islamabad.

When asked to comment on a brief interaction between FM Qureshi and his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek, he said that FM Qureshi himself will give a statement on it soon.

Responding to another question, the spokesperson said there has been some good progress in negotiations with Japan for export of skilled manpower to that country.

He denounced Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir and illegal detention of Hurriyat leaders and said India instead of misleading international community on Kashmir dispute should accept ground realities and aspirations of the people of Kashmir.
