BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan: With an aim to prevent the weaponisation of outer space, Pakistan and Russia signed on Wednesday a joint statement on ‘No First Placement of Weapons in Outer Space’.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov signed the statement, according to Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal.

“Both sides noted the significance of Outer Space activities as an important factor of social, economic, scientific and technological development of States, as well as their role in maintaining national and global security,” he tweeted.

The declaration was signed on the sidelines of a summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers in Bishkek.
